Rules


General
This is a private game. You are a guest here. By playing here you have waived your rights to any fairness and decency and you may be demoted, removed, or banned for any reason whatsoever. In the true spirit of fibs we will attempt to keep things as free, as open, and as fair as possible but in the inevitable event of a dispute we reserve the right to act with an iron fist without having to explain ourselves. I hope we can operate with as little conflict as possible. I'm proud to say that in spite of a decent number of disputes and conflicts, nobody has ever been banned and we will strive to keep the policy of openness and leniency alive.

That being said, the main idea here is to have fun and get to meet new people by playing them in the bracket. The policy of the server will be very loose when it comes to regulating anything. That basically means we don't really care what happens or how you get your result, just that you get it and report it. If you have an argument, or someone you don't like , or a problem because of the way someone played or something they said , WE DON'T CARE , just get your result back somehow. The point at which the admin steps in is when both players say they won the match. Then it becomes an official dispute and the admins and/or dispute committee get involved in the communication to try to resolve it or administer penalties. Anything short of an official dispute is not any business of FIBS-O-NACCI unless it begins to look like there will be an adverse effect on the image or reputation of the tournament.
So there you have it :

1) play your matches
2) don't try to do damage to the server or the culture around it

Follow those two rules and everything will be outstanding.


Signup
This tournament is designed for FIBS. Each player must sign up using his fibs nickname. Notification for new matches and reports will be given via fibs messages so the same name that you use on fibs must be used here. If you have signed up with a wrong, different, or mistaken nick, you can have us nuke your name, then sign up again using your proper fibs nick. We understand that this policy leave the door open for a lot of mischeif such as 'stealing' other's fibs nicks so they cannot sign up. This is why a certain level of security credibility was implemented in using email verification. We know that this cannot stop a determined nick thief but any confirmed theif will be nuked from the system as it causes the administrators an extra amount of work to sort out such problems.

Reporting
Both the winner and loser are expected to report the matches they have played. (winner only for bracket matches) You can report your wins and losses by going to the tournament page and clicking the 'Current' tab. From there you select your tourney and it will give you a choice of your assigned matches. Select a match you have won or lost and click the button. Do this for each match you have won or lost during the session.

If you fail to report a won match the server may see it as an unplayed match.

When an unplayed match occurs, Both parties will receive a penalty


Structure
The pyramid is designed in a fibonacci structure. This means that there is one player at the top of the pyramid. One player directly below him. Two players below him. Three below him. etc. etc. in a fibonacci sequence. 1,1,2,3,5,8,13,21,34,55 ... When you first join the tourney you will be placed at the bottom of the structure and matches will be assigned to you each period according to where you are in the structure. As you play your assigned matches, you can climb up the structure by winning against opponents who are on higher levels than you. For each weekly round you will be assigned 1) a match against a player 2 levels below your level, 2) a player one level below your level, and 3) either a player one level directly above your level, or a player 2 levels above your level as long as those spots exist. If the pyramid is not completely filled in those spots, you may have less than 3 matches but you will always get a match against someone above you unless you are at the top so every round you have an opportuntiy to climb (except of course for the player at the top who has only the chance to defend his position and receive points for it).

*A win against a player above you will always move you up one level, HOWEVER, if others at your same level win against players 2 level's above , they may have priority on the positions in the level above you , so depending on how everybody around you does you may not necessarily always move up at the same rate. If everyone around you wins , you may not move much even if you have won , but you will have at least held your ground in that case. Not winning while everyone around you wins will push you down to the next level. On the other hand, if you are the only one winning , you will move up fast. So the movement has a lot to do with what everybody is doing, we're all connected in this pyramid.

* The only way to get to the #1 spot, is by beating the #1 player from the #2 spot so with that understood you can realize that the only way to lose the #1 spot is to lose to the #2 player. There are a couple ways to get to the #2 spot, more ways to get to the #3 spot etc. There is more on the movement in the next section

* Leaving a match unplayed will move you down a level so finishing your matches is an important part of climbing to a better spot.


Movement
The movement of the bracket is often viewed as overcomplicated but it's actually quite simple , in fact , it's the simplest algorithm we have attempted to use and it turns out to be the fairest a most well rounded by far


1)If you win a match against a player above you move to the front (left side) of the next higher level than the level at which you originaly started that specific round.

2)If someone else on your same level wins a match against a player above , they also move up just like you do , except they are either in front of you or behind you according to where your relative positions were at the start of the round.

3)when you move up to your new position, everybody moves one step to the right, the last person on the level on the right of that level will get bumped down to the left of the next lower level. This continues until the void where you moved from is filled.

4)when you lose to someone one level below you (original position at the start of the round), they will move in the described motion above and push you one step down the line (unless you have already moved up, then your are immune in your new position. this , however, does NOT give any advantage to players because of the order in which they play each other because it is based on your original starting position when you move so you either get pushed down or it is nullified)

5)when you lose to someone 2 levels below you, you are not directly affected in the bracket but you will typically NOT hold your ground with a losing record here because of others moving up past you.

6)If a match goes unplayed all the way until the round closes, both players involved will receive a penalty as outlined in the penalties section. It is not counted on your win loss record or your rating but you will lose ground and miss out on points in the pyramid when it happens.

7)If you miss more 3 or more matches in a row, the bot will automatically remove you from the tournament (see the penalties section). You are free to join again any time but it needs to get rid of dead weight so that other players won't continue to have a problem with missed matches.

It begins to become difficult to comprehend when players start moving because they have unplayed matches as well as the regular movement algorithm. When a lot of this is happening it's hard to tell who should be where , but since there are motivating factors to keep the games played and automated cleaning of the 'dead weight' in the brackets, these unplayed matches should be kept at a minimum.


Penalties
A player may receive a penalty for closing a session with an unplayed match, having a dispute, or general misconduct.

Penalties for unplayed matches are automatic and administered by the server. If a session is closed and you have an assigned match which has not been reported, BOTH PARTIES involved will receive a penalty of which the size is determined by the player's history of missed matches.

*You are only penalized if you miss one or more matches for the given round. (ie you will not get a penalty just for having a high penalty count)

* Every missed match adds one to your penalty count and in turn increases the size of the penalty you will receive.

* Your first missed match is free. (this means there is no penalty if you have no penalty count)

* For a count of more than 1, you move down in the ranking (linear ranking, not level) the ammount of your penalty count + 2.

* if you finish all your matches for a given week, your penalty size will be reduced by 1.

This is a very lenient penalty if your count is low and as you can see it can be controlled and eliminated by finishing your matches. If you are finishing all your matches more than half the time , you will probably never be affected by a penalty, but if you are consistent in missing matches, the size of your penalty will grow until you drop a level or more every round.

Penalties for disputes are automatic and consist of moving to the far right end of the next lower level. They may be overridden, nullified, or enhanced by the administrator depending on the details of the dispute.

Other penalties will be administered by the administrator if and when they are necessary. A player may be penalized after a dispute when it is determined that he has done something dishonest or unfair, and a change of level or complete banishment may be administered for a player who is intentionally causing problems to the flow of the tournament or the game process others are participating in.
I don't expect this to happen, but , sometimes you never know what to expect.

Scoring
Session points will be awarded to you whenever you
1. Win any match.
2. Finish the given period in a position that is either the same or a higher level than where you started and
3. do this while you reside close enough to the top, in a paying level of the pyramid. The number of points you receive for each of these wins depends on the level at which you finish. It also depends on the number of players in the tourney. When you finish a round in a position higher than you started you will receive points according to the scales below.

You get one point for any match you win.
When you finish a round in the same position you started it, you will be paid according to the scale, except that your rate will be adjusted according to the level ONE LEVEL BELOW the one where you finished. ie. according to the first chart below, in a tournament with 40 to 65 players, if you climb to 1st place, you will get 8 points for climbing there. If you hold your place and stay in first the next round, you will get 5 points for staying there. If you climb to level 6 you will get 1 point, if you hold your level at level 6 you will get 0.

The first chart below is for a tournament which has between 40 and 65 players:

Level 6 1 Point


The scale for a tourney with 15 players would look like this :

Level 1 3 Points
Level 2 2 Points
Level 3 1 Points
Level 4 1 Points


As you can see, it's a reverse fibonacci sequence that expands depending on the number of players. It is capped at 13 levels (1218+ players) where first place will pay 233 points !

These points will be accumulated during a session and totaled up to determine our session winners. They will also be converted to Pyramid points after the season is over for more ongoing fun.


Nacci Points
Nacci points will be awarded when each session ends. Your session points will be converted into Nacci points when the specific session ends.
The rate at which they exchange depends which tournament they are from and other variables.
Nacci points can then be exchanged or used on the server for various other things.

Longer matchlength tournaments, special events, and generally the more difficult games will tend to have a more favorable exchange rate for you. In general, the harder it is to do, the more your points are worth.

These Nacci Points can subsequently be used to invite players to showdowns, enter static tournaments, or other fun stuff that we come up with.


Point Sessions
Point Sessions are 3 month long sessions where you bracket points are totaled up and the person who has the most bracket points wins that bracket/session.

When you win a bracket/session, your name goes down in history on the sessions page where you will be listed as a winner.

Generally, the higher you get in a pyramid , the more points you will score. See the scoring section for details

When a session ends, your bracket points are converted into Nacci Points at a rate of sqrt( bracketPoints * matchlength ) * 10. So you can see you get a lot more Nacci Points out of it than you had in bracket points. Also note that the longer matchlength tournament yeilds more Nacci points per bracket point, but not at a linear rate.

You can also use these Nacci Points to challenge people to Showdowns or join tournaments and other things.

Challenges
Showdowns are simply a way to invite other players to a match with some stakes attached to it.

You can bet a number of Nacci Points on that match outcome and live the life of a hopeless gambler.

The server, like any good book maker, will take a 5% commission on the total of both player's hard earned Nacci Points then return the rest to the winner.
If this is already stressing you out with visions of eating out of dumpsters and losing your last bottle of wine in the storm drain, you can sleep easier tonight because you can always generate more Nacci Points for free just by participating in the pyramid brackets.
There are no deadlines or play periods for challenges, but, if a player has not logged in to FIBS for over one month the challenge may be recalled and cancelled.

So have fun and go find someone to challenge.

Side Bets
Side Bets are a way to bet your Nacci Points on matches (and even other things) when you are not directly involved in the match.

You simply fill in who you are going to bet against, and the stakes that you bet. Your stake and your opponents stake can be the same, or they can be different.

If the stakes are different you will have an odds bet. For example, if your stake is 10 and you opponents stake is 30, in the case you win , you will win his 30 (plus your own 10) and if he wins he will win your 10 (plus his own 30). So if you put 10 in the YOUR stake box and 30 in the OPPONENT's stake box, you will win 30 if you win , and he will only win 10. Of course it works the same the other way around as well.

The Nacci Points will be transferred automatically when a win is confirmed. There is a 5% commission taken out of the winnings so in an odds bet the commission will be different depending on who wins. It is only taken from the winning money.

There are no deadlines or play periods for sidebets, but, if a player has not logged in to FIBS for over one month the side bet may be recalled and cancelled.


Brackets
Bracket matches are a standard single elimination bracket.
The friendly 8 brackets can be seen under 'Brackets'. They are spawned automatically and started when 8 players have signed up. There is a fixed Nacci-Point entry fee and payouts for first and second place finishers. The play periods are more relaxed than the pyramids, however, undue stalling or causing trouble may be answered by a forfeit or other action. There is no defined 'deadline' for finishing pyramid matches, but , if a player has not logged into FIBS for over one month his match will be forfeited in the interest of keeping the play moving along.
